R2POWER300

Preparing R2 extension to 300mm for BCD Smart Power and Power Discretes

Project Overview

This section describes the scientific and technical approach that is being pushed through the 36 months work stream execution of R2POWER300. The work plan structure of the project is provided by describing the workflow among the work packages.

The project is made by six work packages, as depicted in the diagram above. The four main technical work packages are organized as a consistent supply chain for the whole Pilot Line, from manufacturing and equipments to technology, design, 3D Modules and Packaging, down to Demonstration and Validation. The two others transversal activities are respectively dedicated to the dissemination, exploitation and standardization of results and to project Management and IP Right management. All these work packages are illustrated below and their contents are detailed in the following.

WP1 “Technology enablers”

Lead: ST-I. The goal is to prove BCD9 (110nm gate length) and BCD10 (90nm gate length) most critical technological steps portability to 300 mm, and define the main technical requirements for next generation power semiconductor relevant tools (200mm → 300 mm).

WP2 “Technology Research & Development”

Lead: ST-I. The goal is to push forward the innovation (process’s, technology’s, product’s) and enhance the competitiveness of Smart Power (i.e. BCD9 and BCD10) and Power Discrete Technology platforms. This will unleash the growth of the next generation’s power electronics market.

WP3 “Packaging and 3D integration”

Lead: BESI-NL. Smart power electronics will face new challenges in the packaging field. The goal is to develop innovative SiP solutions based on embedded dies technology and a range of heterogeneous 3D modules.

WP4 “Application and Technology demonstration”

Lead: LPE. To assess the effectiveness of the technology outcomes from WP1 to WP3, by implementing a set of application driven and technology demonstrators, including target system specifications, designs, prototyping and validation.

WP5 “Dissemination, Exploitation and Standardization”

Lead: IUNET. The main objective of this work package is to coordinate and organize the dissemination and exploitation plans as well as the continuous technology watching, roadmapping and standardization matters during the full project’s duration. Exploitation and Standardization tasks will maximize the strategic impact to the market.

WP6 "Management, Innovation and IPR"

Lead: ST. To ensure that the overall objectives of the R2POWER300 project will be achieved within the planned time and budget, a permanent and close tasks’ monitoring with all partners will be performed in order to enable the project coordinator to control the work progress and act as unique interface and catalyst for the project under the ECSEL JU rules. This WP will also foster the innovation by means of appropriate policies and rules for the management of background and foreground IPs, coming out of the innovative technologies developed during the project’s execution.
